Sadness as it is understood | #poetry #avalonwrites

I wonder if - for you, too?
Sadness, as it is understood
is it like the way it feels for me
- as a physical pain, palpable?

In an incomplete sculpture
Sadness, when it occurs:
an armature suddenly splintering,
breaking, beneath wet plaster

or, even - papier mache,
slopped over a plastic bottle;
before the glue, the mush, is dry
the bottle crumples -

a vacuum, as in a gas chamber
of oxygen-decreasing-over-time
behind glass doors in silent screams
of life escaping as does the air

If Sadness is, for you as well,
these metaphors I use - here and
more - to spell in words some measure
of that palpable gnawing pain,

real, as a ghost with flesh, alive,
yet invisible to most, as we see,
then my friend my pain
is yours to read here, and breathe
